Tunnel Ventilation

Tunnel ventilation is critical for a variety of reasons. Typically, ventilation ensures an adequate air quality, controls the spread of smoke in case of fire, and reduces air temperatures to acceptable limits. The function of the ventilation relates to the type of tunnel in question.

Risk Management

Risk can be defined as the product of two factors: the probability of incident and its consequences. The identification of risks, their mitigation and the management of any residual risks is a key business process. In general, a wide range of risk management tools are available, ranging from qualitative to quantitative methodologies.

The selection of the appropriate tool is an important consideration, which is influenced by importance of the risk, best-practice guidelines and legal requirements.

Fire Safety Engineering

We can provide this because we have a deep understanding of the fundamentals underpinning the fire safety requirements, and can develop and justify alternative solutions that may be more cost-effective.

Through our international experience, we can offer tailor-made fire safety engineered solutions based on alternative codes, including UK Building Regulations, NFPA, ICC/IBC, Building Code of Australia, Qatar Fire Safety Handbook, Dubai EHS, Singapore SFSRTS and Irish Building Regulations.

Computational Fluid Dynamics

CFD is a powerful simulation tool that enables the prediction and visualisation of fluid flow within and around any object, e.g. airflow within a tunnel, smoke movement with a station, flow through a wastewater treatment plant, and many others. This is achieved through the numerical solution of discretised versions of the Navier-Stokes equations governing fluid flow, along with additional phenomenological models of relevant physical processes such as turbulence, radiation and conduction.
