Fire safety management

No matter how well a building has been designed, an adequate level of fire safety will only be established if its fire safety precautions are managed well. The management of fire safety encompasses all aspects of a building’s life cycle, including day-to-day operation of the building, changes to the building (extensions, alterations and refurbishment), changes of use, demolition, and control of any fires. A key aspect of delivering a safe operation is the appointment of a competent fire safety manager.

The responsibilities of a fire safety manager are wide, and include the development of a fire safety strategy appropriate to the level of risk, maintenance of access and egress routes and supervising fire drills.

We can assist in the preparation of operational fire safety strategies and plans, as well as advising on specific issues of concern (e.g. false alarms). We have assisted clients in demonstrating compliance with statutory requirements including the Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) 2005, as well as best-practice guidelines.
