At the recent World Road Association (PIARC) conference on tunnel safety in Lyon, Dr Fathi Tarada spoke at a round table discussion on “plug and play” systems in tunnels. His view is that plug-and-play systems assist tunnel operators in moving from reactive to predictive maintenance regimes. The “plug” part refers to the ease of physical replacement, while the “play” part refers to the ease of network integration and calibration. More details regarding this discussion can be found here.
