Japanese and International Standards for Jet Fans

The World Road Association (PIARC) held a joint session with the National Committee of Japan, where issues relating to tunnel design and operation were presented. Dr Fathi Tarada of Mosen Ltd and Dr Masahiro Yokota of NEXCO presented research findings on Japanese and international standards on jet fans. Current correlations on the installation factors for conventional jet fans are too optimistic, and changes in Japanese traffic gauge regulations mean that jet fans are pushed closer to the soffit, which diminishes the in-tunnel thrust.
